View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.
Downloads about 3.5 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Poole Hill sits in Jackson County, about 15 miles northeast of Ashland.1
The Former Fire Lookout Sites register and firelookout.com date the tower to 1935.2,1 Forest Lookouts dates a 40-foot round native timber tower with an L-4 cab to about 1934.3 A register photograph is captioned as showing the lookout from 1935 to 1948.2 A panorama was taken from the site on August 12, 1936.3
The register and firelookout.com name the Oregon Department of Forestry as the agency. Forest Lookouts lists the site under the Rogue River National Forest, so the sources disagree on who ran it.2,1,3
The register says the tower was removed in 1948, and firelookout.com says it was destroyed that year.2,1 In 1950 the Southwest District Annual Report recorded that the lookout house had been salvaged.3
The register includes a photograph of the site from 2007.2 No source we read describes what remains there now, or whether the summit is open to visitors.
