View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 3.5 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Pyramid Butte, in Marion County, got an L-4 lookout house in 1934.1,2 The register puts the summit at 6,095 feet, or 1,858 meters.1 Firelookout.com places the butte in the Mt. Hood National Forest.3 The house was a 14-by-14 model.4
In August 1934 a newspaper writer passed the butte shortly after leaving Breitenbush Lake.4 The writer called the trail one of the steepest and most crooked in the country, and said it was easy to see why pack horses could not take lumber to the top.4 A panorama photo entry for the butte is dated June 27, 1934.4
The register says the cab was removed in 1952.1 Firelookout.com says it was destroyed in 1952.3 A Lakes District historical report covering 1953, as quoted on a collection page, says the lookout was condemned and disposed of that year.4
The sources consulted do not describe what remains on the butte today or say whether the public can reach it.
