View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.
Downloads about 3.5 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Rujada Point, also called Rose Hill, is a former lookout site on a minor summit about a mile to the west-northwest of Rose Hill in Lane County, Oregon.1,2 It sits about 14 miles west-southwest of Oakridge, and the Umpqua National Forest is the agency listed for it.2,3
In August 1933 an item in The Sentinel, as quoted on the Oregon lookouts page, said material had arrived and work was about to begin, and that timber had been felled to open the view.3 A September 14, 1933 item in the Roseburg Chieftain said the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was to build a 10x10 lookout before the first snow, and that size was the norm for secondary lookouts.3
By 1934 the site carried a 40-foot tower of round fir poles, topped with a 10x10 L-5 cab.1,3 Panoramic photographs were made there in February 1934 and retaken in July 1937.3
Sources disagree on how the tower ended. The Former Fire Lookout Sites register says it was abandoned and removed, while firelookout.com says it was abandoned and destroyed.1,2 The Oregon lookouts page dates its removal to about 1960.3
The site was registered with the Former Fire Lookout Sites register on March 28, 2011.1
