View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.
Downloads about 3.9 MB of terrain data the first time.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Square Mountain lies in Wallowa County, north of Fingerboard Saddle, between Cow Creek and the Snake River.1,2 The register says a 24-foot pole L-4 tower was built there in 1941.1 Firelookout.com gives the same height and year.3
Only one lookout is named for the site, Duley Dale of Enterprise.3,2 The Forest Lookouts history calls Dale the sole lookout ever to staff the tower, and says 1941 was the only year anyone was assigned there.2 Firelookout.com instead lists Dale for 1942 and 1943 and spells the name Duly, so the dates conflict.3
The register says the tower was removed in 1952.1 Firelookout.com says it was destroyed that year.3 The Forest Fire Lookout Association lists the site as gone.4
