View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.
Downloads about 4.0 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Walker Point, on the Eastern Lane district of the Oregon Department of Forestry, sits about 19 miles east of Springfield in Lane County.1,2,3
According to the register, the site first held a cabin, built at some point in the 1930s.1 In 1942 a 35-foot tower topped with an L-5 cab took its place.1,2 The Rex page lists a 1940 Forest Log item under its Walker Point (East) heading.3 The item says the line would later run on to an emergency lookout in Section 30, Township 17 South, Range 2 East.3
The register and firelookout.com both record the lookout as abandoned during the 1950s and no longer standing.1,2
No source we read describes what, if anything, remains at the site today, and none says whether the public can reach it. The register names the Oregon Department of Forestry as administrator, so ask that agency about access before planning a visit.1
