View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Wolf Point was a lookout in Lane County, Oregon, about 16 miles southwest of Eugene, at an elevation of 1,716 feet.1 The Forest Lookouts site files it under the Western Lane district of the Oregon Department of Forestry.2
Work began in 1949 on a 14-by-14-foot lookout house on a 40-foot tower.2 The firelookout.com listing describes that tower as a wooden one.1 A 1950 report to the state gave the total cost of the improvement as $2,955.61.2
In 1969 a replacement was under way.2 It was a portable tower whose cabin would be taken to headquarters for winter storage, which was meant to limit weather wear and vandalism.2 A small trailer house would provide the living quarters.2
In January 1972 the Forest Log reported that the Wolf Point lookout station had burned to the ground that winter, and that the cause was under investigation.2 In 1972 a 35-foot steel Aermotor tower with a 7-by-7-foot cab was erected, with the trailer house.1,2
Both lists mark Wolf Point as gone.1,3 No source we read describes what, if anything, remains at the site today. None says whether the site is open to the public, so treat access as unknown.
