View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Downloads about 3.4 MB of terrain data the first time.

Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

High Knob is in Pike County, Pennsylvania, inside the Delaware State Forest.1,2 The Former Fire Lookout Sites register lists the spot as the High Knob Tower Site.1

The register says a bald tower stood there and was replaced in 1921.1 It does not say when the first tower went up, who built it, or what the replacement looked like. The site was registered on September 16, 2008, and sits at 2,055 feet, or 626 meters.1

Mapping and wiki records use a different name for the spot. OpenStreetMap and Wikidata both list a High Knob Fire Tower there, and Wikidata places it in the Delaware State Forest.3,2 Neither record gives a build date or a staffing history, so we cannot tell whether the 1921 tower is the one the map shows.3,2

We could not confirm whether a tower stands there now. The register treats the site as a former lookout, while the map and Wikidata entries still carry a tower name.1,3,2 We found no public access information, so anyone interested should check with the land manager before going.
