View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Downloads about 3.2 MB of terrain data the first time.

Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story

Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Lee tower stood on Cedar Mountain, northwest of Leetonia in Tioga County.1,2 The register describes it as a steel Aermotor tower built in 1928.1 An October 1939 report from the Wellsboro Agitator, quoted on a regional lookout history site, called it the 80-foot Lee Tower at Leetonia and listed it among the other towers in District 16.2

In April 1949 the Wellsboro Gazette named Raymond Cole as the towerman on Lee Tower, which it placed on Cedar Mountain north west of Leetonia.2

The tower was removed in 1986.1 The site was entered in the Former Fire Lookout Sites register on September 16, 2008.1

Today, no source I read describes what, if anything, remains on the mountain at this spot, or whether the ground is open to the public. Plan on a site visit only after you have checked who owns the land.
