View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.

Downloads about 3.3 MB of terrain data the first time.

Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story

Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

According to the register of former lookouts, the Muzzette Tower, a steel Aermotor, was built in 1935 by the U.S. Forest Service.1 The register lists the site in Forest County at US 393 and PA 222, puts it at 1,781 feet (543 m), and spells the name Muzzette. OpenStreetMap uses Muzette.1,2

A 1936 map of the Marienville area labels a Muzette Fire Tower, one of several fire lookouts it shows.3

The register says the tower was removed before 1995.1 OpenStreetMap labels its point "Muzette Lookout Tower (likely gone)" and gives the elevation as 539 meters, a few meters below the register's figure.2

No source we read describes what, if anything, remains at the site today, or whether it is open to visitors.
