Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Stony Point Fire Tower is in Hickory Run State Park, in Carbon County, Pennsylvania.1 Wikidata, which catalogs it as a fire lookout tower, places it in the park and gives its coordinates.1

We could not confirm when the tower was built or who built it. Our own record gives 1921 and an Aermotor design, but the pages we could read do not give either date or maker.1,2

We also found no record of who watched the tower or of any fire it spotted, so the staffing history is blank for now.

Do not confuse it with another Stony Point site. The Former Fire Lookout Sites register lists a Stony Point Tower Site in Union County, which it describes as "no longer standing."3 The register does not link that site to this tower, and the two should be kept apart.

An undated Flickr photo caption says the tower sits on a rise above the south and west parts of the park, at a base elevation of about 1,860 feet.2 The same caption says the tower cannot be climbed, that a locked, barbed-wire fence encloses it, and that trees and underbrush hide the view from its base.2 Because the caption is undated, it may not show the tower as it stands now. Anyone who wants to see it should look from the outside and ask park staff about its condition first.
