View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Downloads about 4.0 MB of terrain data the first time.

Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

Junior Point sits in the Wenatchee National Forest in Chelan County, about 21 miles northwest of Chelan.1,2

A shelter cabin went up in 1931 just west of the summit.1,3 A 1931 Wenatchee Daily World item, quoted by Washington Lookouts, reports that the Forest Service had just finished a look-out house at Junior Peak.4 An L-4 cab was built on the summit in 1933.1,3

Willhiteweb, citing Kresek, says the site once served pack trains heading toward Pyramid Lookout and, during AWS, was a halfway house for suppliers on snowshoes bound for Big Hill.3

Sources disagree on how the cab ended. The register says it was removed in 1968, while firelookout.com and Willhiteweb say it was destroyed that year.1,2,3 Washington Lookouts also lists the site as removed.4

No source describes footings, a foundation or other remains at the summit today. Willhiteweb now presents the site as a viewpoint for adventurous visitors, and a wooded campsite just below the summit has a picnic table and fire ring.3 The road in is gravel, and Willhiteweb says it suits vehicles with good tires and higher clearance than an average car.3 Its page labels the site drive-up.3
