View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 4.1 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Lakeview Mountain, in Yakima County, Washington, had an L-4 cab built in 1935.1,2
The cab was abandoned in 1945, ten years after it was built.3,1 The pages we read do not describe who staffed it or any fires it saw.
Left standing alone for years, the cab decayed and eventually collapsed.3 Other pages agree that it has collapsed.1,2,4
Today the site is ruins.4 One history page says a significant amount of debris remains.3 The Former Fire Lookout Sites record lists the Yakima Indian Reservation as both location and administrator.1
Wilderness status covers the north half of the mountain, while the south side is Yakama Nation land.3 Treat the site as permission-only. The pages we read describe no public route to it, so ask the tribe before you go.3,1
