View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.

Downloads about 4.1 MB of terrain data the first time.

Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

North Creek Butte is in Okanogan County, in the Okanogan National Forest, at about 6,580 feet.1,2 An L-5 cab was constructed here in 1934.1,3 The Register credits its 1934 panoramic photographs to the National Archives Pacific Northwest Region, and the panoramas are dated September 18, 1934.1,4 WillhiteWeb also says photos were taken from the cab's roof that same year.3

The lookout was abandoned in 1952, and the cab is gone.1,2,3

Today, no source we read gives directions to the site itself. WillhiteWeb offers only a rough outline of how to reach the area and says the exact spot is unmarked.3 One photo caption says a tree later took over the North Creek Lookout sign.3 The page lists an elevation gain of 2,710 feet but no hiking distance.3 Because the cab is gone, there is no structure to climb, and anyone planning a visit should check current access with the national forest first.
