View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.
Downloads about 4.3 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Red Mountain rises in Kittitas County, Washington, on the Wenatchee National Forest, and the register gives the lookout site an elevation of 5,703 feet.1 Its register point is 47 degrees 23.7 minutes north and 121 degrees 8.7 minutes west.1 A lookout cab went up there in 1932, built to an L-5 design.1 The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Washington list gives the site's type as Ground.2
The register dates the cab's abandonment to 1948 and says it is now gone.1 Three panoramic views from August 22, 1934, labelled north, southeast and southwest, are credited to the National Archives Pacific Northwest Region.1
No source I found describes the summit today. The register's photo list also includes an undated picture captioned "Debris," credited to Jeff Ruckle.1 It does not say what is on the site now.
