View from the cab
What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.
This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.
Downloads about 4.0 MB of terrain data the first time.
Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story
Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.
Thirteenmile Mountain sits in Ferry County, in the Colville National Forest, about 10 miles south-southeast of Republic.1,2 In 1929 the site was a camp.3 Panoramic photos from September 26, 1934 show lumber ready for building the cab.3
In 1935 a 10-foot pole tower with an L-5 cab replaced the camp.1,3 The 1934 panoramas call the ridge Thirteen Mile Ridge, not mountain.3 A 1936 survey party described the top as bare and grassy, and locals called it Thirteen Mile Mountain.3
In 1942 the lookout was used by the AWS, from March 27 to May 9.4,3 In 1945 a survey party found it still standing.3
Later in the 1940s the tower and cab came down.1,3 The FFLOS entry says removed, while firelookout.com and Willhite say destroyed.1,2,3
None of the sources cited here says what, if anything, is left on the summit today or how to reach it.
