View from the cab

What you see from the cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

Downloads about 3.8 MB of terrain data the first time.

Or see what it could see on the map: the ground in its line of sight.

Story

Researched 8 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Clevedon Lookout stands in Douglas County, Wisconsin, on a hill that its survey records call Sugar Camp Hill.1,2 The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources administers it, and the National Historic Lookout Register listed it on August 16, 2017.1

The register does not know when the tower was built and lists its height as unknown. It notes an inside corner leg ladder and says the tower looks like a 100-foot Aermotor.1

A 1958 recovery note for the survey marker on the hill gives directions that include "east to Cleveland fire tower." The sources do not say whether that is this structure.2

I found no record of who staffed the tower or which fires it watched. The Forest Fire Lookout Association lists the tower as standing.3 A peak-listing site names a trail, Fire Tower Road, that reaches the summit, but none of the sources say whether the public may reach the tower or go up it.4 Check with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources before you go, and do not climb the tower without permission.
