View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and its recorded height.

Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

Danbury Lookout stood in Burnett County, Wisconsin, at an elevation of 1,104 feet.1 The National Historic Lookout Register describes an 84-foot Wisconsin standard tower with an external protected ladder, built in November 1932.1

The record gets complicated there. An October 20, 1930 newspaper item, quoted on a lookout history site, already describes a state fire tower at Danbury.2 It describes the crow's nest as winterized, with the tower closed in and sliding windows fitted, and says a direct phone line connected Webster, Danbury, Gordon and Spooner.2 The 1930 and 1932 dates disagree.1,2

The register recorded the tower on August 28, 2017, and lists the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as its administrator.1 The Forest Fire Lookout Association's Wisconsin list now marks the Danbury tower as gone.3

No source describes what, if anything, remains at the site today.
