Story

Researched 9 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Jack Pine Lookout is a 74-foot International Stacey tower in Oneida County, Wisconsin, built in 1933.1 The National Historic Lookout Register says the tower has an internal leg ladder and lists its elevation as 1,580 feet.1 The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources administers it, and the Register accepted the tower on June 9, 2017, as US 1194, WI 6.1

The sources read do not say who staffed the tower or which fires it watched.

In 2016 the DNR planned to take 72 fire towers out of service, mostly in northern Wisconsin.2 The examples the article gives are all in Sawyer County, so the sources read do not show whether Jack Pine was one of the 72.2

The firelookout.org listing shows the tower as standing.3 The sources read give no access rules, and the record marks access as unknown, so anyone planning a visit should check with the DNR first.
