What you see from the cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

The structure was moved. This view is from the position Firefinder shows for this record, at a typical height for a lookout like it.

Story

Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The Park Falls tower was erected in 1934 in Butternut, Wisconsin, according to the state chapter of the Forest Fire Lookout Association.1 The National Historic Lookout Register gives no construction year.2 It describes a stairway in the style of the US Forest Service and says the tower appears to be a 100-foot Aermotor.2 The register does not know the year, so the 1934 date rests on the chapter report alone.2,1

The register lists the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as administrator, and records the registration on June 28, 2017, as US 1218, WI 24.2

The chapter's 2024 report says the tower was later moved to Park Falls.1 In 2018 the DNR sold it, and it was moved onto private property less than five miles from the Park Falls site.1,3

Today the tower is located on that private land, so the Park Falls site itself no longer holds it.1,3 The sources describe the land as private, so this story does not suggest a visit.1,3
