View from the cab

What the lookout saw from its cab: every ridge out to about 93 miles, the named peaks in sight, and other fire lookouts within view, worked out from terrain data in your browser.

This lookout is gone. The view is reconstructed from its recorded site and a typical height for a lookout like it.

Story

Researched 10 Oct 2026, fact-checked.

The register describes the Pattison Lookout as a 100-foot tower with a stairway in the US Forest Service style. It names McClintock-Marshall Steel Company, a Bethlehem Steel subsidiary, as the manufacturer and gives 1934 as the build year.1 The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources administered it.1 The register lists the lookout as US 1241, WI 36 and gives its elevation as 1,216 feet (371 m).1

The register recorded the lookout on August 28, 2017.1 The Forest Fire Lookout Association lists the Douglas County tower as gone.2 The register's description uses the present tense, which does not match that list.1,2

No source describes what, if anything, remains at the site today.
