Your first visit

Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.

First step: Fill in the Mentee (Youth) Participation Request form on the site and pick the Saturday Leadership Academy..

Check with the group before you show up. You need to sign up first.

What to expect

The Leadership Academy is for young men in grades 2 to 12, grouped by age and led by mentors. Topics include character, conflict resolution, goal setting and leadership. The site does not give the place, the length or the fee for sessions.

Tips for your first visit

  • Have a parent or guardian's name, phone number, email, school and grade ready, since the form asks for them.
  • Ask the office for the place and start time, because the site does not list them.
  • To ask about adult volunteering, call (267) 424-2444 or email office@100blackmenphilly.org.

Newcomer welcome

Fine for newcomers, but you may need to speak up (3 out of 5). Why we say this: A public form on the site lists each program to choose from, so the youth way in is clear. The site does not say how a non-member adult can mentor..

Cost and commitment

Cost
Cost not known yet. The site does not state a fee for the youth programs. Adult members pay yearly dues of $300, and the page lists $350 for some members under 30 or over 60, with unclear wording.
