Your first visit
Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.
First step: Check the eligibility rules on the Apply Now page, then submit the online application for the 2026 to 2027 program year. Most regions are full, and the page names open spots only in Piedmont, SC and the Roaring Fork Valley, CO, so check that page for current openings before you apply..
Check with the group before you show up. You need to sign up first.
What to expect
A fellow works full time as a teaching artist in a school, teaching standards-based arts lessons, leading at least one community arts project a year, and attending required training. Service runs 10 months from a September start or 6 months from a January start, with a monthly stipend.
Newcomer welcome
Takes some effort for newcomers (2 out of 5). Why we say this: The way in is a formal application that asks for an arts degree or comparable experience, U.S. citizenship or legal residency, and passing background checks..
