Black Spatial Relics

An arts project that supports emerging and mid-career artists, especially Black artists, with residencies, grants, and gatherings. Much of its work is new performance about slavery, justice, and freedom.

What they do

Join the newsletter to hear about open calls and public events. Artists apply to the artist in residence program, the Conjure Council fund, or the micro grants when a call is open. The 2025 Conjure Council nominations closed in December 2025, so watch the newsletter for the next call.

When and where

We do not know the schedule yet. Ask the group.

We do not have a meeting place for this group yet.

Your first visit

Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.

First step: Join the newsletter from the Join Newsletter link on the site. Then ask by email (blackspatialrelics@gmail.com) which public events are coming, since the Upcoming Events page lists only a 2023 event..

What to expect

The site does not describe a typical event, so check each listing for time, place and cost. Some past events were set aside for Black participants, and the Conjure Council fund is for artists and cultural workers who are descendants of the African Diaspora. The 2023 lab that appears on the events page was free.

Tips for your first visit

  • Check whether an event is open to the public before you RSVP.
  • Email blackspatialrelics@gmail.com with questions about who can attend.

Newcomer welcome

Takes some effort for newcomers (2 out of 5). Why we say this: The newsletter is open to anyone, but the site lists no current public event and does not say how to register for one, so the way in is unclear..
