Brenda's Cat Rescue

An all-volunteer rescue for stray and abandoned cats. Cats live in foster homes until they are adopted, and the rescue also traps, neuters and returns feral cats from colonies.

What they do

Foster a cat, adopt from the adoptable list, or help by socializing shy cats, driving cats to vet visits, or working at adoption events. Donations go through PayPal or Venmo, and the site also lists a barn cat program.

Your first visit

Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.

First step: Fill out the online foster application linked from the Foster page, or the online adoption application if you want to adopt. To ask about volunteering, use the contact form or email brendasrescues@gmail.com..

Check with the group before you show up. You need to sign up first.

What to expect

After an adoption application is approved, the rescue arranges a meet and greet with the cat at the foster home. A foster keeps a cat for several weeks to several months, provides food, litter and daily care, and has vet costs covered for any problems.

Tips for your first visit

  • Foster applicants must be at least 25 to be the main caretaker.
  • Adopters must be at least 21 and employed, self-employed or retired, and need a veterinarian reference and three personal references; incomplete applications are not processed.
  • Adoption preference goes to people living within one hour of Philadelphia.

Newcomer welcome

Takes some effort for newcomers (2 out of 5). Why we say this: Fostering and adopting both need a written application, and meeting cats happens only after approval; the volunteer roles are listed, but the way to start them is a contact form or email..

Cost and commitment

Cost
Low cost. The pages we read list no fee to volunteer. Foster homes pay for food, litter, and daily care, and the rescue covers vet costs for problems. Adoption fees are $150 for one adult cat, $225 for two adult cats, $175 for one kitten, and $275 for a pair of kittens, and they are not refundable.
