Fleisher Art Memorial

An art center on Catharine Street with adult classes, youth art programs, a free Teen Lounge for teens, and community festivals. Tuition-free classes need a membership, and members get a discount on paid classes.

When and where

Adult and youth classes run in terms. During term, the front desk is open Monday to Thursday 9 am to 9:30 pm, Friday 9 am to 8 pm, and Saturday 9 am to 3:30 pm. The Teen Lounge meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm during the school year.

Your first visit

Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.

First step: Register for a class through the online class search, by phone at 215-922-3456 ext. 300, or at the front desk. Paid classes do not need a membership, but tuition-free classes do..

Check with the group before you show up. You need to sign up first.

What to expect

Each class meets on the dates in its listing, within a term. Tuition depends on class length, and studio and material fees depend on the medium. Tuition assistance covers tuition only, and the site notes that waiting lists form when classes fill.

Tips for your first visit

  • Parking is limited. The student lot across from the main entrance is open only during programming hours, and paid and free city lots are nearby.
  • Bike racks are along Catharine Street and the lot fence.
  • If you need the lift, call the front desk first.

Fine for newcomers, but you may need to speak up (3 out of 5). Why we say this: Classes are open to the public with online, phone and desk sign up. Some tuition-free classes are labeled introductory, but most classes are not labeled by level..

Cost and commitment

Cost
Paid. Membership is $65 a year for adults, $50 for seniors 65 and older, and $120 for a household of up to four adults and children. Members get 10 percent off tuition-based classes. Tuition-based classes set tuition by length, studio fees vary by medium, and open studio drop in is $10 for students taking a class in that medium. Tuition assistance covers tuition only.

The main building at 719 Catharine has an elevator, and a lift serves visitors who use mobility devices during open hours. Accessible parking is in the lot and in front of the school entrance on Catharine Street. The 709 Catharine building has no accessible restroom. Nearest SEPTA: the Route 47 bus stop at 8th and Christian Streets, about half a block away. For lift help, call the front desk at 215-922-3456 ext. 300.
