What they do

Girls can join a clinic or Club GiG, or find a ride near them. Coaches receive training in safety and the group's curriculum, and volunteers can use the coach link on the site.

When and where

Glide to Ride clinics run about two hours each for first-time two-wheel riders, on set dates listed on the Greater Philadelphia page. Club GiG is an eight week club for confident riders that meets on Saturday afternoons at various locations.

Your first visit

Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.

First step: Choose a Glide to Ride clinic date on the Greater Philadelphia page and register through its link. To coach instead, email info@girlsingear.org..

Check with the group before you show up. You need to sign up first.

What to expect

Glide to Ride is about two hours and is aimed at riders who are new to two-wheel cycling. Coaches run each group session with a focus on confidence and safety. The group's pages do not say what to bring, whether you need your own bike or helmet, or what the fee is, so check the registration page before you sign up.

Tips for your first visit

  • Pick a clinic date on the Greater Philadelphia page; each date has its own registration link.
  • Check the registration page for fees and scholarship options before you sign up.
  • Ask the program director by email whether girls need their own bike or helmet, since the site does not say.

Newcomer welcome

Welcoming to newcomers (4 out of 5). Why we say this: The Greater Philadelphia page lists a two hour clinic for first-time two-wheel riders with registration links, and the coach page says no cycling expertise is needed to coach..

Cost and commitment

Cost
Cost not known yet. The Greater Philadelphia page does not state fees or scholarships. The registration page says the group wants every girl to be able to join regardless of money, but it does not say how that works.
