Your first visit
Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.
First step: Come to the Friday 6:30 pm service, hybrid or online, or the Saturday 10 am service in person. For Torah School, use the Register Now form on the Torah School page, or call the Torah School Director at 267-629-2349..
You can just show up.
What to expect
Friday services run about an hour and a half, and Saturday services run two to two and a half hours, mostly in Hebrew. The page welcomes first-time guests and has no dress code, but it does not say where to check in or whether there is a sign-in step. The cost of attending as a guest is not printed.
Tips for your first visit
- Street parking on Whitby Ave is not guaranteed. A handicapped spot is directly in front of the sanctuary, and the Director of Operations can hold nearby parking if you ask ahead.
- Fidgets and headphones can be borrowed during services; they sit next to the prayerbooks.
- The prayerbooks are Siddur Chaverim Kol Yisrael on Friday and P'tach Libi on Saturday. The page does not say whether copies are provided.
Newcomer welcome
Welcoming to newcomers (4 out of 5). Why we say this: The Shabbat page welcomes first-time guests, and the membership page gives a form and a staff contact to start; no guest orientation is described, so it is a 4 rather than a 5..
Cost and commitment
- Cost
- Cost not known yet. Membership runs on a sustaining share. The page prints the 5785 figures as $180 a month or $2,160 a year, with a suggested minimum of $36 a month, and says money should not be a barrier to membership. No price for visiting services or for Torah School tuition is printed.
Access and languages
- Wheelchair access
- Partly wheelchair accessible
- Languages spoken
- We do not know yet which languages are spoken.
- Access notes
- Accessible front door with a push button into the lobby, an ADA restroom, and a handicapped parking spot directly in front of the sanctuary on Whitby Ave. The page does not mention an elevator or ramp. Friday services are live-captioned, and ASL is available for High Holiday services when requested at least 30 days ahead. Fidgets and headphones can be borrowed during services.
Requirements
- Children can take part with a parent.
