Your first visit

Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.

First step: For a child, register through the TeamSnap form for fall ball, linked from the fall ball page. To coach, mark interest on the registration form or email mtairybaseball@yahoo.com..

Check with the group before you show up. You need to sign up first.

What to expect

Fall ball is Sunday games at Mt. Airy fields, with start times between 9 am and 5 pm. Kids play in divisions set by birthday, and each player gets a team hat and jersey. Families see game times in TeamSnap once teams are set.

Tips for your first visit

  • Check your child's birth date against the division dates on the fall ball page before you register.
  • Need help with the fee? Email mtairybaseballscores@gmail.com; the club says no child is turned away for inability to pay.
  • The site does not list equipment, so ask the club whether your child needs a glove.
  • Adults who want to coach need Pennsylvania child abuse and state police clearances, and head and assistant coaches attend clinics before the season.

Newcomer welcome

Fine for newcomers, but you may need to speak up (3 out of 5). Why we say this: Any child in the age range can register online and need-based help is offered, but the site does not say whether a child needs prior experience..

Cost and commitment

Cost
Low cost. Fall ball costs $60 per child. Need-based help is available by email, and the club says no child is turned away for inability to pay. Other program fees are not stated.

Requirements

Pennsylvania child clearances

This group works with children. Pennsylvania law says adults who volunteer with children need clearances. The usual ones are a child abuse history check and a State Police criminal record check. Some people also need an FBI fingerprint check. Ask the group which ones you need and how to get them. For unpaid volunteers, the clearances last five years.

Read about the clearances on the state website

  • This group asks for a background check.
  • Children can take part with a parent.
