Your first visit

Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.

First step: Come to any weekly open studio session with your own supplies and cash for the fee. No sign up is needed..

You can just show up. No sign up needed.

What to expect

Each session runs three hours. Most sessions use a nude model, and the Thursday afternoon session uses a costumed model. Tipping the models is encouraged.

Tips for your first visit

  • Bring your own supplies and cash, since monitors collect the fee after the first twenty minutes.
  • Check sketchclub.org before you go, because sessions close on holidays and during bad weather.
  • Turpentine is not allowed; only odorless solvents are, and you must take them with you.

Newcomer welcome

Fine for newcomers, but you may need to speak up (3 out of 5). Why we say this: Open studio sessions take walk-ins with no advance registration, and non-members may attend. The page does not describe a beginner program..

Cost and commitment

Cost
Low cost. $15 for non-members, $10 for members, and $9 for full-time students with ID. Monitors collect the fee after the first twenty minutes, so bring cash. Membership is $175 a year, or $90 a year for members under 35.
