What they do
Pick the peer group that fits your loss from the city's list: a drop-in group, a parents group, Hot Widows' Club, GRANDS, Hay Otros en Duelo (a group with a Spanish name), and Writing Grief, a time-limited group that uses creative writing. The program also offers grief counseling for adults and youth, and workshops.

When and where
Peer groups are held online, mostly by phone or video call, with some in-person events now and then. The city page does not list meeting days or times for each group, so ask through the sign-up survey which group fits and when it meets.
We do not have a meeting place for this group yet.
You can join online.
Your first visit
Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.
First step: Use the sign-up survey linked from the city's grief support page to ask which peer group fits your loss, or call the program line at 215-516-9429..
You need to sign up first.
What to expect
The city page does not give meeting times for each group or describe a typical session, so ask the program what the first meetings look like. Peer groups meet online, usually by video or phone. The program is free and needs no insurance.
Tips for your first visit
- Ask the program which group fits your loss, since the pages do not explain how the groups differ.
- Find a quiet, private spot with a reliable connection for an online group.
- The city page lists 988 (24 hours) for crisis help, and the NAMI Philadelphia Warmline at (844) 745-4673, weekdays 9 am to 5 pm, for support between groups.
Newcomer welcome
Fine for newcomers, but you may need to speak up (3 out of 5). Why we say this: Open to people grieving a Philadelphia resident's substance-related death, with a clear first step (a sign-up survey or a phone call), though the pages do not say what happens after the survey..
