Your first visit
Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.
First step: Fill out the interest form linked from the city's program page, or email PRC@phila.gov..
Check with the group before you show up. You need to sign up first.
What to expect
Before your first session you complete an orientation and a mandated reporter training module. You also complete the clearances the program lists, including state and child abuse history checks, an FBI waiver or fingerprint check, and a sex offender registry check for adults.
Tips for your first visit
- Volunteers aged 16 and 17 need a parent or guardian to sign a release form.
- You can read more about the program on the city's page before you apply.
Newcomer welcome
Welcoming to newcomers (4 out of 5). Why we say this: The city's program article says no prior experience is required and volunteers get trained, and it explains how to apply..

Requirements
Pennsylvania child clearances
This group works with children. Pennsylvania law says adults who volunteer with children need clearances. The usual ones are a child abuse history check and a State Police criminal record check. Some people also need an FBI fingerprint check. Ask the group which ones you need and how to get them. For unpaid volunteers, the clearances last five years.
- This group asks for a background check.
How to reach them
