When and where
Volunteers commit to at least one hour a week for four months or one school semester. Placements are set with a site supervisor.
We do not have a meeting place for this group yet.
Your first visit
Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.
First step: Check the program page for the volunteer application, which is closed for now because volunteer spots are full. When it reopens, fill it in and take the 20-minute screening call. Questions about reopening can go to digital.equity@phila.gov..
Check with the group before you show up. You need to sign up first.
What to expect
Before any placement you take a 20-minute screening call that matches you to a role. You then submit the background checks and complete an orientation that is offered regularly through Teams. Last, you meet your site supervisor, confirm your schedule, and finish any site or city training your role needs.
Tips for your first visit
- If you are 14 to 17, you need a parent or guardian's permission.
- Some partner sites also ask for an FBI check. Pennsylvania residents who have lived here more than 10 consecutive years can ask for it to be waived.
- Watch the program page for the reopening date, since the page gives none.
Newcomer welcome
Takes some effort for newcomers (2 out of 5). Why we say this: A volunteer application, a 20-minute screening call and background checks come first, and the application is closed with no reopening date..

Requirements
Pennsylvania child clearances
This group works with children. Pennsylvania law says adults who volunteer with children need clearances. The usual ones are a child abuse history check and a State Police criminal record check. Some people also need an FBI fingerprint check. Ask the group which ones you need and how to get them. For unpaid volunteers, the clearances last five years.
- This group asks for a background check.
