Your first visit
Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.
First step: Come to the 9 am or 11 am Sunday Mass, then call the rectory at 215-333-0585 about joining the Marthas (they meet each Monday after the 8:30 am Mass) or another ministry..
You can just show up.
What to expect
Mass is free and open to anyone, so you can come and sit without signing up. Sunday Masses are at 7, 9 and 11 am and 7 pm, and the 11 am Mass is livestreamed on Facebook. Volunteer roles need a PA State Police criminal record check and a PA child abuse history clearance, and the parish has a safe environment coordinator who can help with them.
Tips for your first visit
- Watch the 11 am Sunday Mass livestream on Facebook first if you want to see how the parish runs before you go.
- Ask the rectory about the safe environment coordinator if you want to volunteer; the clearances must be renewed every 5 years.
- FBI fingerprint clearance is only needed if you have lived in Pennsylvania for less than 10 years; a disclosure statement is needed if you have lived there 10 years or more.
Newcomer welcome
Fine for newcomers, but you may need to speak up (3 out of 5). Why we say this: Mass is open to anyone, and the parish lists a rectory phone for groups such as the Marthas and ushers, though it does not say what a first meeting is like..
Cost and commitment
- Cost
- Free. Mass is free to attend.
- How often
- Drop in whenever you like
Access and languages
- Wheelchair access
- We do not know yet. Ask the group before you go.
- Languages spoken
- We do not know yet which languages are spoken.
- Access notes
- The archdiocese listing says some liturgies are interpreted in American Sign Language and links to a separate schedule of those Masses. The parish's own pages list no ASL Mass, so confirm with the rectory before you plan around one.
Requirements
Pennsylvania child clearances
This group works with children. Pennsylvania law says adults who volunteer with children need clearances. The usual ones are a child abuse history check and a State Police criminal record check. Some people also need an FBI fingerprint check. Ask the group which ones you need and how to get them. For unpaid volunteers, the clearances last five years.
- This group asks for a background check.
- Children can take part with a parent.
