Program

Surge Recovery

A recovery house network for men in Philadelphia who are working through alcohol and drug addiction. Residents live on site for a 90-day stay and can take job training, GED and college prep classes, and outpatient therapy.

  • Ages 18 and up

Saved in this browser only.

What they do

Live in the residential program, take the classes and job training it offers, and use its health and outpatient services. Residents move through three stages: Step In (a 90-day stay), Step Up (taking on a role in the house, such as leading a group, cooking, or managing laundry), and Step Out (finishing outpatient treatment with steady income and housing lined up). Alumni can stay connected through the program's alumni services.

Your first visit

Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.

First step: Email the office at surgerecovery1712@gmail.com to ask about intake. The office is open Monday to Thursday, 10 am to 6 pm, and Friday, 10 am to 3 pm..

You need to sign up first.

What to expect

Start with a call or email to the office about intake. The site does not describe what intake involves, what the program costs, or whether a visit is allowed before intake. Once admitted, the first stage is a 90-day stay in the house, with classes twice a week (three hours each) and on-site health and outpatient services.

Tips for your first visit

  • Ask what intake involves and how long it takes
  • Ask about cost, since the site does not say
  • Ask which phone number is the right one, since the site lists more than one

Newcomer welcome

Takes some effort for newcomers (2 out of 5). Why we say this: Men 18 and older go through an intake step before admission, and the site describes no open visit day, so the way in is a call or email..
