Your first visit
Feeling unsure the first time is normal. Most groups are glad when someone new walks in.
First step: Book a tour on the tours page at least 2 weeks ahead, or walk the grounds yourself during open hours..
You can just show up.
What to expect
A tour takes about 1.5 hours on a weekday from April to October, costs $20 per person, and needs a booking at least 2 weeks ahead with a 50 percent deposit. It covers the cemetery and the Hamilton Mansion, which is open only for appointments or certain events. The cemetery still holds funerals, so a service can change your tour plans on short notice.
Tips for your first visit
- Book at least 2 weeks ahead. A 50 percent deposit holds the tour and is refundable up to 5 days before.
- Take the SEPTA trolley to 40th and Woodland. The gates are directly across from the trolley portal.
- Plan to leave before sunset, since safety staff close the gates each evening.
- Children under 14 need an adult with them, and dogs must stay on a leash at all times.
Newcomer welcome
Fine for newcomers, but you may need to speak up (3 out of 5). Why we say this: The grounds and public events are open to anyone, and tours are booked by form, phone, or email. The volunteer page says to contact the group or join its mailing list, but it gives no sign-up form..
Cost and commitment
- Cost
- Paid. Tours are $20 per person, and a space to eat lunch adds $5 per person. Individual membership is $40 a year and brings invitations to members-only events, discounts on ticketed events, and occasional after-dark access. Other event prices vary.

Access and languages
- Wheelchair access
- Partly wheelchair accessible
- Languages spoken
- We do not know yet which languages are spoken.
- Access notes
- Nearest SEPTA: Subway-Surface Trolley to the 40th Street Trolley Portal at 40th and Woodland, directly across from the gates (any line except T1). Paved roads, historic brick sidewalks, and grass, with most roads having a 4-inch curb. The one ADA restroom is at the northeast corner of the Stable and is open when staff are on site and during public events. A wedge ramp for event areas can be set up with advance notice. Hamilton Mansion has four steps, and a ramp can be added on request. An event space accessibility map is available.
